What is self storage?

Self storage is a great way to get some extra space in your home or office, and at the same time ensuring your belongings are safe. Depending on what you need to store, you can choose from a selection of different sized units. Storage can for short or long term, depending on your needs.

Can I store my car in self storage?

Yes you can! Most Self Storage companies have storage units big enough to store cars, trailers, caravans, and boats. Using a self storage unit to store your car has many benefits – it is safe and secure inside a locked unit, and because it is stored indoors it won’t be exposed to the elements.

What size unit will I need?

This will be dependent of what and how much you are storing. We have a variety of different sized self storage units at different price ranges, from small units of 4m2 to larger units big enough to store a car, caravan, or boat.

How tall are the storage units?

The heights of the various storage units range from 2.7m to 5.4m, depending on the specific unit. If you are unsure what size unit you require, staff will be able to guide you.

How do I know my belongings will be safe?

You can be assured that your belongings will be safe. When you sign up for a storage unit, you receive your own lock and key. No one else will have a key to your unit – including staff. The self storage units in Johannesburg are located within a warehouse, which is surrounded by palisade fencing. As additional security, there is a full-time security guard on the premises. Most Self Storage companies also have available a high-security area, that is not accessible by car.

When can I access my unit?

The office is open Monday – Friday, 08:00 to 17:00. However, you will be able to access your unit 7 days a week.

What can’t I store?

There are many things you can store, but the following items will not be allowed:

• Living objects such as pets or plants
• Flammable items
• Firearms
• Toxic waste
• Narcotics and illegal substances

I am ready to vacate my unit – do I need to give notice?

Yes. Most Self Storage companies require one full calendar months’ notice if you wish to terminate your agreement.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. Most Self Storage companies require a deposit equal to one month’s rental.

Can I store (and use) a freezer in my unit?

Yes, some Self Storage companies allow freezers in the units. If you are planning on running freezer in your unit, let staff know upfront so we can assign the correct unit to you for this use. Having an extra freezer to store bulk items is a great way to save money.
