Go-Karting, fast and fun

What to do this weekend?

It seems that there is alot of indecision when it comes to entertaining oneself at the weekend. Often friends come over and we indulge in the favourite South African pass time of a braai and just hanging out with each other, not really doing anything.

Granted, it is relaxing, but a change of scenery and pace are a good idea. So why not bounce the idea of a trip to the Kyalami Kart Circuit one weekend. You can book ahead for a Friday or Saturday, or you can pop in on a Sunday for the arrive and drive option. Kyalami Kart Circuit is easy to reach from most major centres in and arounf Johannesburg.

It's outside!

So you will be focusing on trying to keep your kart on the track while trying to stay ahead of the competition, but you will be doing it outside where the sun is shining. The Kyalami Kart Circuit is situated in the middle of the Kyalami so you will truly be in the heart of the action, whether or not you have chosen to participate in the races.

The main track is not for Karting use but if you happen to bw there when they are practicing its usually quite a fun thing to watch. Kind of like the little brother wanting to grow up and be like the big brother.

You thought it was sold?

Although the Kyalami racetrack was sold at auction to Porsche South Africa, the name will remain the same and the venue will continue to be used as a racing venue. This means that the surrounding businesses and venues, like Kyalami Karting Circuit will continue as usual for the forseeable future. This means that you can start your own group of Karting enthusiasts and spend more time at the track practicing a worthwhile hobby rather than just hanging around at home not really doing anything.

What about safety?

For a novice the thought of hurtling around the track at a high speed can be rather daunting, and being so close to the ground makes it feel as if you are moving much faster than you actually are. But these are all things that you get used to rather quickly and thats when your adrenalin from fear turns to the adrenalin of fast paced excitement.

The karts are all equipped with bumpers right around to absorb the impact should you ride into anything, and you are strapped in and provided with a helmet. There is very little that can go wrong.

Save any alcohol consumption for when you get back home and celebrate your win. You won't be allowed to enjoy what the Kyalami Kart Circuit has to offer if you are under the influence of alcohol.

Are you planning a trip to the track?

Set yourself the task this weekend for when you and your buddies are sitting around the braai of convincing them to join you at the Kyalami Kart Circuit next weekend. Initially you may meet some resistance but there may just be one or two in the crowd who have tried their hand at go-karting, these are the guys that will become your allies and help you win over everyone else.
